Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. His affinity for the land and astonishing feel for winemaking produced monumental vintages of Pinot Noir, which propelled the exquisite range of Paringa Estate wines to international renown. McCall works closely with Mornington's finest vignerons to nurture better standards of viticulture and deliver finer vintages with each harvest. Halls Gap Vineyard was planted 1969, along the steep eastern slopes and parched rocky crags of Grampians Ranges, at the very beginning of a renaissance in Victorian viticulture. Since early establishment in the 1860s by the noble Houses of Seppelt and Bests, the region had earned the most elite peerage, a provenance of extraordinary red wines, bursting with bramble opulence and lined with limousin tannins. The Halls Gap property had long been respected as a venerable supplier to the nation's most illustrious brands. Seppelt and Penfolds called on harvests from Halls Gap for their finest vintages. Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon Ribera Del Duero Spain
Spain's most prestigious winemaking estate was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves. He planted the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, as well as the local Tinto Fino or Tempranillo, to the arid Ribera soils just east of Valladolid. The Bodega is now source to Spain's most distinguished wines. Unico is treated to an extended ageing in a selection of estate coopered casks and barriques. The wines of Vega Sicilia are renowned for their complexity, intensity and longevity, amongst the finest in the world.
The Vega Sicilia wineworks are located at Valbuena in the province of Valladolid, on a fertile plain that follows the course of Ribero Duero. The river forms the northern boundary of the thousand hectare property, the southern limit is set by woods, which stand on the slopes leading to the plain. Soils are clay limestone with brown grey streaks and an alluvial area. There are 250 hectares of vineyard, mostly Tempranillo de la Ribera, with further plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. Vintage 1995 was a mostly Tempranillo wine with a seventh of Cabernet Sauvignon, matured up to ten years in a combination of seasoned and new, oak casks and large capacity wooden vats.
Intense cherry red colour, brilliant. Complex and elegant nose, the fruit is integrated with subtle, fine oak characters. Exceptional balance on the palate, exhibiting all the elegance of a statuesque Tempranillo wine, muscular, stately and solidly structured yet elegant and refined, retaining all the liveliness of youth. Complex, flavourful and persistent.
