Burgoyne & Jackson opened offices in northern Portugal during the 18th century, initially a general trading company, exporting wines, olive oil and fruit, as well as importing dried cod and English woollen goods. The structure, style and superb quality of Warre's Ports are defined by its vineyards. The mainstay of Warre's Ports is provided by three great estates, Quinta da Cavadinha, Quinta do Retiro Antigo and Quinta da Telhada. The latter was acquired by Warre's in 2006 and this riverside property now makes a significant contribution. Further to these, Warre's are able to draw on the production of a collection of other sites with long associations. Quinta do Retiro Antigo is one of the finest vineyards in Rio Torto. A historical landmark with spectacular 18th century stone terraces, most of which grow just one row. These ancient vines produce superb grapes that perfectly complement fruit from Cavadinha.
Inky and concentrated, an opaque colour given by the famous old vines of Retiro Antigo. This concentration combines perfectly with the freshness imparted by wines from the higher lying Cavadinha vineyards to produce lovely fresh flavours of blackberry fruit. A wine of enormous elegance, combining vibrant lifted fruit with power and long lasting flavours. Vintage 2007 is much enhanced by the exuberance of Telhada Touriga Franca grapes.
