Maglieri Shiraz 2012 CONFIRM 2012 VINTAGE

Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
One of Maglieri's great achievements has been a run of sensational successes at the London International Wine Challenge. Maglieri has twice beaten all comers, to be voted Best Shiraz of the competition. With the high quality of grapes from the estate vineyards, the emphasis during vinification is to preserve the quality of fruit. Maglieri fashions a moreish Shiraz wine exhibiting spiced blackberry, plum and liquorice characters, indulgent like a festive cake, framed by well integrated oak, supported by the most polished, fully compliant tannins.
Giovanni Maglieri arrived in the McLaren Vale 1958 and worked the local vineyards until establishing his own winery. Five years later, Giovanni's seventeen year old son Steve, followed his father to Australia. In 1965, the pair bought forty hectares of McLaren Vale scrub and set about the task of clearing it for the planting vines. In 1972 Steve Maglieri established Gully Wines, which he renamed to Maglieri in 1977. Originally a family run boutique operation, Maglieri continued to grow from strength to strength, winning over a loyal nation wide cult following and releasing some of the region's most essential wines. Maglieri today is synonymous with McLaren Vale Shiraz, the vines are meticulously pruned and closely managed.
A dark ruby red color, almost black. Vibrant bouquets of satsuma plum and coffee, cigarbox and spice, olive and piquant vanilla oak. Superbly integrated and smooth to the palate, medium bodied with lovely flavours of dried fruits and spice, anise and plum. Sumptuous, forward and flavoursome, this is a suitably complex wine that's already drinking well, to accompany flavoursome cuisine.

Giovanni Maglieri arrived in McLaren Vale in 1958 and worked in the vineyards of Pirramimma Wines

Five years later, Giovanni’s 17-year-old son, Steve, arrived in Australia. Then, in 1965, the pair bought 40 hectares of McLaren Vale scrub and set about the task of clearing it and planting vines. In 1972 Steve started his own winery Gully Wines, which he renamed Maglieri Wines in 1977.

Maglieri

Steve wanted to create distinctive and characterful McLaren Vale wines, and when John Loxton joined Maglieri in 1981, the pair was able to establish their own style. The quality of their wines improved steadily, and by the early 1990s Maglieri was well positioned at the top of the McLaren Vale tree. John Loxton was judged to have made the Best Red Wine in McLaren Vale in 1992, and was made Bushing King. Further show successes came throughout Australia and overseas throughout that decade.

One of Maglieri’s greatest achievements has been its sensational success at the International Wine Challenge in London. Twice the Maglieri Shiraz has beaten all comers and been voted Best Shiraz of the Competition. It can be said truly, that Maglieri wines lead the world

With a wide range of single varietal distinctive wines, Maglieri is well known for being character filled and at the forefront of winemaking in the McLaren Vale region. Maglieri now offers a very fine Lambrusco range that is a tribute to Maglieri’s Italian beginnings. Amabile is Italian for soft and mellow, and the easy drinking Maglieri Amabile offers a hint of spritz, in a soft, fruity, uncomplicated wine that is bright garnet red in the glass with a gentle hint of bubbles, Lambrusco at it’s very best.
