Wirra Wirra Lost Watch Riesling 2009
In 1947, Wirra Wirra patriarch Greg Trott lost the only watch he ever owned, a gift from his father. From that day forth Trott never bothered with a timepiece, avoiding the responsibility for such a valuable item. He claimed to tell time by the sun, a noble if impractical sentiment. Consequently he was notoriously late, hours and even days, for dinners, meetings, flights and gatherings. Fortunately Trott's affability and charm garnered forgiveness from those kept in wait. It is precisely these qualities which distinguish the Lost Watch Adelaide Hills Riesling

From Riesling grown at Mt Torrens and Lenswood, each grape is picked by hand and the winemakers intervene as little as possible, placing their faith in the selection of fruit and the blessings of nature. The fruit is crushed, chilled down to 7°C and treated to an air bag press before storage in temperature controlled vessels. Fining additions are added at the press tray, the free run and pressings are kept separate. The juice is then chilled to under 3°C and left for six or seven days while the juices cold stabilise. These are then racked and warmed to 16°C followed by inoculation with either QA23, Anchor VIN 13, or PDM yeasts. Generally the vinification takes six weeks to completely finish fermentation. Alcohol 12.5%
Brilliant pale straw with a green tinge. Fresh floral and perfumed aromas leap from the glass with kaffir lime leaf and lemons. Pure lemons and limes flow through the persistent palate with a lovely minerally acidity cleansing the pristine finish. A wine of impeccable freshness intensity and style. To accompany shucked oysters with freshly squeezed lime juice. A splendid Adelaide Hills Riesling with hopefully a bit more reliability than Trotty. "This is full of spring flowers to begin then a dry, minerally palate underpinning a lemon delicious set of flavours finishing spritely and refreshing!" -Adelaide Advertiser, "This full flavoured riesling is lean and clean, with lots of fresh pear, apple and Asian spices!" -Style Wine Magazine

Namesake Chateau Angelus Bordeaux, takes particular exception to the Wirra Wirra wine, labeled as Dead Ringer Cabernet outside of Australia

Wirra Wirra Angelus Cabernet 2007
Wirra Wirra Angelus Cabernet 2007 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Robert Strangways Wigley was an eccentric South Australian cricketer who established Wirra Wirra in 1894. He produced a highly prized Shiraz which was exported to England and the Empire until he passed away in 1925. The cellars fell into disuse after the 1936 vintage and remained inoperable until Greg and Roger Trott rebuilt the ironstone winery by hand in 1969. "Here is one of the McLaren's most august efforts. Finely focused, licorice coloured, boysenberry flavoured, scented with cassis and violet, after dinner mints and cigar!" -Wine Mag.com.au

Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz Viognier 2008
Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz Viognier 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line The late, great Greg Trott, patriarch of Wirra Wirra, saw many of his unusual dreams realised, such as the construction of a cyclopean fence that girts the entrance of the wineworks. One consuming vision however continued to elude him, the building of a medieval siege machine called the trebuchet. Why? To use as a catapult for bombing neighbouring wineries with bottles of wine in the hope they would reciprocate. A splendid, opulent rendering of Shiraz, brimming with intense fruit, a hint of varietal spice and a touch of Viognier to be different, just like Trotty

Wirra Wirra Chook Block Shiraz 2006
Wirra Wirra Chook Block Shiraz 2006 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line From time to time Wirra Wirra produces wines from very small parcels of extremely intense, high quality fruit. Chook Block is a unique wine which is not made except in exceptional vintage like 2002. It is not made to a particular style; winemaking is purely in a custodial sense attempting to reflect in the wine the quality of both the Chook Block Vineyard, and the vintage. The fruit was 100% Hand Picked, with bunch selection by hand to remove any undesired bunches. "There’s no doubting that it’s a deep, profound wine!" -Winefront.com.au

Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2008
Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Church Block was the first wine which the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra's century old ironstone cellars. Over four decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite, consistently offering a smooth, soft red wine that balances the complexity sought by aficionados, with the approachability desired by those seeking pure drinking pleasure

Wirra Wirra Hiding Champion Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Wirra Wirra Hiding Champion Sauvignon Blanc 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Greg Trott, the man who nursed Wirra Wirra back to health and re-introduced the estate's noble wines to the world, was a wanderer. A simple run to the local shops might evolve into an interstate luncheon. He would return a day or so later, bemused by the fuss. It seemed to all that Trott was in training to become the Olympic Hiding Champion and it became part of the folklore at Wirra Wirra. Fruit was sourced from the spectacular Sauvignon Blanc aspects at Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills and vinified into a rejuvenating, stylish young wine

Wirra Wirra Mrs Wigley Grenache Rose 2009
Wirra Wirra Mrs Wigley Grenache Rose 2009 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Mrs Wigley was a particular pussycat who was born at the neighbouring Petrucci residence. Within days her mum had dragged the litter to settle in the Wirra Wirra open fermenters, and from then on Mrs Wigley became a permanent feature of the Wirra Wirra cellars. "Twist off the screw cap and settle in for lunch under the trees. That's what Wirra Wirra's rose is all about – pure, simple drinking pleasure. It’s pink and deliciously fruity with tingly, fresh acidity balancing the attractive grapey sweetness. One bottle won't be enough!” -Canberra Times

Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz 2007
Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz 2007 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line RSW is the acronym for Robert Strangways Wigley. He learned his craft during a tenure at Bankside under the tutelage of Thomas Hardy, who claimed to have never known anyone that worked harder than Wigley. RSW's wild pranks as a young man made him somewhat of an embarrassment to his family. In 1893 he was prudently sent to rusticate in McLaren Vale where he undertook the planting of vines in 1894. By the turn of the century he was proprietor of the most eminent winemaking operation in the district, with a hundred acres under vine

Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Shiraz Cab Verdot 2008
Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Shiraz Cab Verdot 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line It's well known that Shiraz and Cabernet make good bedfellows, but in a rare case of three's company, a tranche of Petit Verdot elevates this wine to another level, with its vibrant colour and rich fragrance. All three varietals conspire to achieve the balance, elegance and structure of this classic Wirra Wirra red. "A delicious drink-now red. Expect to find a compact nose of sweet dark plums, violets and spice. In the mouth, it’s soft, full and all about fruit, with little oak influence and a wash of fine drying tannins to finish!" -Sunday Telegraph

Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Unwooded Chardonnay
Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Unwooded Chardonnay - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Formerly known as Sexton’s Acre, this wine has always been a defacto member of the Scrubby Rise range. Unwooded and unoaked, however you look at it, this Chardonnay is for those who like their wine to reflect the vineyard, not the woodyards, just a celebration of natural Chardonnay fruit flavours. "Wirra are one of my favourite wineries at the moment. They seem to be doing everything well. Even unwooded chardonnay!" -Winorama.com.au, "Bright and appealing for its lively pear and citrus flavors!" -Winespectator.com

Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise White 2009
Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise White 2009 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Is it any wonder this wine has slipped into the vernacular as Scrubby White? While the name may twist tongues, the unusual mix of grapes offers a rich array of fruit flavours to inspire the most jaded palate. Crisp and fresh, it completes the puzzle and gives you something to ponder while you wrestle with Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Viognier. "The ever dependable bargain from one of McLaren Vale’s most renowned cellars, a riper style with stone fruits and apple flavours, a little oak, and a layer of herbals and wheatgrass!" -The Advertiser

Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz 2008
Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Woodhenge is about big ideas, in the mould of cyclopean fences built by early settlers. A wine of great elemental sculpture, the assemblage of individual vineyard and sub-regional characteristics is the key to the success of the style. Woodhenge has previously claimed Decanter World Wine Regional Trophy and Gold Visyboard Great Australian Shiraz Challenge. Bold and tightly knit, incorporating ripe berry fruit, and integrated oak balanced by velvety tannins, Woodhenge Shiraz, like it's namesake edifice, is sublimely monumental
