It's not a Syn to want to spray this all over your palate and your mates too. Leconfield might be an unlikely source of top qual, effervescent bubblies, being Cabernet specialist producers, but they clearly know how to get the party started. |
Time has shown the Eden Valley to be a natural home for Riesling, which to quote Peter Lehmann, is the noblest white wine variety. Lehmann's Eden Valley editions can boast the unique distinction of winning Best Riesling in the World Trophy at the prestigious London International on no fewer than five occasions, more than any winemaker in the world. |
A pure single vineyard Pinot Gris grown to the most splendid aspects of Brancott Valley. This exceptional terroir, a combination of superb free draining soils and low annual rainfall with good sun exposure, create the optimum conditions for grapes which translate into some of New Zealand's finest wines. Fairhall Downs looks close to rivalling those exuberant Pinot Gris which are most famously produced in Alsace. |
A mostly Shiraz wine with smaller components of Mataro and Grenache, sourced primarily from good vineyards along the Margaret River. Drawing inspiration from the complex red wines of the Rhone Valley, Marmaduke balances the pepper and spiceyness of Shiraz, sweet fruit flavours of Grenache with the earthy, gamey influence of the torrid Mataro. The search for fully ripe flavours essential to the Marmaduke style requires harvest in the latter part of the season when the flavours and natural fruit sugars achieve climax while the tannins have softened and matured. |
Only ever released in the best vintage years, the backbone of this substantive Shiraz is exceptional old vine fruit from famed, gnarled and dry grown Barossa vineyards at Ebenezer. Bishop is assembled from components which are up front and generous, showing animated, youthful characters, as opposed to the more restrained and structured components of the sibling Glaetzers. |
The Wantirna Vineyard is a never ending journey of enchantment and surprise. At times vigor and energy are needed, at times all that's required is patience. Planted in 1963, it was one of the first new generation Yarra Valley vineyards. The earliest plantings included all sorts of varieties, many largely unknown. A large proportion of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes which make up Amelia date back to the original vines. A smaller component of Petit Verdot contributes structure, fine firm tannins and good natural acidity. |
Super Bin 389 & 407
Value packed Bin 128 & 28
Over the last forty years Penfolds Bin 389 has developed a strong identity for consistency, reliability and exceptional value. Components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. Wine lovers enjoy it because it's delicious and ready to drink immediately upon release. |
A textbook Cabernet, the varietally expressive Bin 407 highlights the virtue of sensitive vineyard blending, bold Cabernet flavours are supported by a judicious use of soft oak. Magnificent Cabernet, bursting with a rich panoply of cedary highlights which wrap themselves around the thick berry fruit flavours. |
Introduced as one of the first Bin wines within the Penfolds portfolio, it has become an Australian classic. Penfolds Bin 28 is a ripe fleshy warm-climate Shiraz offering structure and generosity of flavour. Bin 128 has claimed an impressive chestful of awards and was twice named Red of the Year at the London International. |
In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra, and the Bin 128 experience began. The only Penfolds to be pure Coonawarra, it was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality has increased immeasurably, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made. | |
