A mostly Shiraz wine with smaller components of Mataro and Grenache, sourced primarily from good vineyards along the Margaret River. Drawing inspiration from the complex red wines of the Rhone Valley, Marmaduke balances the pepper and spiceyness of Shiraz, sweet fruit flavours of Grenache with the earthy, gamey influence of the torrid Mataro. The search for fully ripe flavours essential to the Marmaduke style requires harvest in the latter part of the season when the flavours and natural fruit sugars achieve climax while the tannins have softened and matured. |

The Wantirna Vineyard is a never ending journey of enchantment and surprise. At times vigor and energy are needed, at times all that's required is patience. Planted in 1963, it was one of the first new generation Yarra Valley vineyards. The earliest plantings included all sorts of varieties, many largely unknown. A large proportion of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes which make up Amelia date back to the original vines. A smaller component of Petit Verdot contributes structure, fine firm tannins and good natural acidity. |

In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra, and the Bin 128 experience began. The only Penfolds to be pure Coonawarra, it was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality has increased immeasurably, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made. |
